On Wednesday 17th December, the team at Doves Funeral Directors in Swanley hosted the final memorial service of the year for the area. This service has long been a cherished part of the local calendar, and once again it was beautifully arranged and thoughtfully delivered.
The church welcomed both familiar and new faces, each greeted with warmth, hugs and a genuine sense of community. Guests were invited to light candles in memory of their loved ones, creating a gentle and reflective atmosphere.
As the service began, the church lights were lowered to near darkness, and the opening chords of Silent Night filled the space — a truly moving start. Readings were shared by Rose, Karen, Bill and a member of the team, before the remembrance stars were blessed and prepared to be hung on the branch trees.
The service concluded with the poem Tonight I Light a Candle, written by colleague Debi for her own memorial service at Dartford Funeral Service, followed by the closing carol. Many attendees stayed afterwards to share refreshments, conversation and support. A particularly touching moment was the distribution of handmade decorations, kindly created and gifted by Karen.
With this final gathering, the memorial services for the year come to a close. The team at Doves extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone involved for their dedication, compassion and hard work in providing these meaningful opportunities for families to remember and reflect
